Class Cost $300

Due to the level of skill required and the limited number of spots available for this exciting educational opportunity, FABA is screening potential applicants to ensure they have the necessary qualification and skill to fully benefit from the experience and not slow the class down for other participants.Applications will be reviewed by Master Blacksmith Committee.

The top 6 qualified applicants will be offered the chance to attend. A resume, letters of recommendation and a portfolio are required.  A digital copy of your portfolio must document at least 4 forging projects involving traditional blacksmithing techniques.The application fee is non-refundable.For those selected the application fee will be applied towards the cost of the class.

Once application fee is paid, the applicant will receive an email with a link to download the application and instructions.  The email will come from ‘FABA Annual Conference’  FABA Conference@blacksmithing.org.  The subject will read ‘Thank you for you FABA Conference Registration’.  Please check your ‘spam’ or ‘junk’ mail folders if you do not receive the email.

Interested applicants should have a minimum of five years of experience in blacksmithing and be able to demonstrate proficiency in all the traditional blacksmithing techniques.  Apply by adding the application to your cart using the button below.

“Mokume Gane” a Japanese Metalsmithing technique that literally translates into “eye of the wood”. This process manipulates multi-layered billets of different color metals by punching and grinding to produce amazing patterns and textures that resemble wood, smoke, and sedimentary layers. Students will receive a laminated stack of copper and brass to be manipulated by punching and filing to expose a pattern.
