Introduction to Blacksmithing for Youth

The “Youth Introduction to Blacksmithing ” is a 2-hour class and is designed for youth with little or no experience in blacksmithing. It provides an overview of basic safety practices, covers the history of metalworking/blacksmithing and introduces the student to basic tools and their use, proper hammer strokes and tong use. The students will complete at least 3 individual projects and learn the basics of working with a coal forge. The class allows for 8 youth participants . (If your youth is at least 13 years old and has some experience working with hot metal or has worked with a parent or mentor and already has some basic skills, he/she might be better off taking the general Blacksmithing #1 class.)
